Percentage of Steel in Structural Members :

• Slab – .8 to 1 % of the total volume of concrete
• Beam – 2% of the total volume of concrete
• Column – 2.5 to 3 % of total volume of concrete
• Footings – 0.8 to 1.5 % of the total volume of concrete

Concrete:

Commercial Building :- 0.5 A m3

Residential Building :- 0.2 A m3

A= Total Built Up Area. (i.e. Plinth Area x No. of Floor)

Steel:

Residential Building :- 4.5-4.75 kg per Sq ft of Built up Area

Commercial Building :- 5.0-5.5 kg per Sq ft of Built up Area

Thumb Rules for Shuttering area:

Thumb rule to estimate the shuttering required is 6 times the quantity of concrete or 2.4 times of Plinth area.

For example, the concrete quantity is 15 m3, then

Area of Shuttering is 15 x 6 = 90 m2

Shuttering Ply Quantity :-

Shuttering Ply has a length, width & depth of 2.44 x 1.22 x 0.012

No. of Shuttering Ply sheets = 0.22 times of Shuttering

Shuttering area = 90 m

Then Ply required for shuttering = 0.22 x = 19.8

Batten Quantity

Shuttering batten usually have a length & width of 75mm x 40mm.

Batten Quantity = 19.82 x No. of Ply Sheets

If work requires 20 Ply sheets, the total quantity of Battens are 19.82 x 20 = 396.4 Battens

Nails & Binding Wire

Approximately, 70 gm of Nails used in shuttering of 1m 2 area.

70 gm of Binding wire is used for every 1m2 of Shuttering.

Shuttering oil

Shuttering oil is apply on shuttering plate surface used to de-frame or de-assemble from the concrete easily.

Total required Shuttering oil  = 0.065 x Total Area of Shuttering

If, total area of shuttering is 15 m2, then Shuttering oil Consumption = 0.065 x 90 = 6 litre.
